If you’re serious in mobile photography, Asus ZenFone 4 is for you.
Asus finally released ZenFone 4 (ZE554KL) in the market. What makes it different from the early released smartphones of ZenFone 4 series is its dual lens rear camera—one standard lens and one wide-angle lens plus one selfie camera. Total of three lens for this phone.
Of course, as phones were not all about taking photos; let’s take full review on Asus ZenFone 4 (ZE554KL).
It’s 5.5 inches full HD display is using AMOLED technology display. Viewing photos or watching videos indoors using this phone is pretty nice, experiencing vibrant to real-life color display even when viewing at different angle; the color quality won’t change. However, experiencing outdoor is a different story. With full phone brightness, the display outdoors in extreme sunlight could give quite a hard time viewing phone displays.
Two days after setup, phone is already asking for a system update that you can’t turn down. Good thing it will only take ten minutes.
ZenUI 4.0’s clean-look and light-feel makes the phone easier to navigate. The phone works faster also because of less animation. Moreover, this UI offers useful smart tools. Few of these smart tools include page marker that allows you to bookmark any articles across the web, wallpaper slideshow for a refreshed feel of different wallpaper every time you hold your phone and my personal favorite: twin apps which allows users to have two accounts in the same app like Facebook.
As we try all three of the cameras, we are really impressed with the results.
Standard lens is equipped with 12MP main camera, with large 1.4µm pixels and a wide F1.8 aperture lens to capture up to 5x brighter and clearer photos in low light.
Thanks to its instant camera switching feature, you can change to the wide-angle camera swiftly. This second rear camera will give you 200% larger view that the regular smartphone equipped with 8 MP camera, 1.12µm pixels and F 2.2 aperture. Its 120° wide-angle camera will let you fit more into the screen.
While the wide-angle camera will let you capture wider perspective, the standard lens will give a better-quality photo. But the detail that both cameras give is somehow identical.
Moving forward in a low light environment, we also test its 5x light sensitivity and will let the pictures speak its result. Originally the setting has warm lights and Asus ZenFone4 achieved closer actual color.
Next to test is its Pixel Master technology which claims to capture moments fast and steady. Its ultra-fast 0.03 seconds phase-detection and subject-tracking auto-focus with dual pixel camera unit with 24 million focus detection sensors ensures sharp and clear photos. You can create effortlessly captured jump shots with this device.
This not a selfie camera phone but upon checking its front cameras, your photos will look stunning with or without beautification. Front cam is equipped with 8 MP camera, 1.12μm pixel size and F 2.2 aperture.
Doing photography with this phone’s Pro Mode is spectacular. The phone offers manual camera controls similar to professional cameras. Allowing you to do adjustments to shutter speed, white balance, exposure and ISO.
Leading phones in the market were using Snapdragon 800 series already. Perhaps Asus is trying to lower down budget on its processor by using Snapdragon 660. Regardless, Asus ZenFone 4 performs well with its 6GB RAM. Checking benchmark score proves that this phone was not built for high performance but still can sustain multitasking and demanding life.
Lastly, battery review. Asus ZenFone 4 Max set pretty high standards in battery life with 6600mAh. While this phone only uses 3300 mAh Li-Ion battery, it can lasts up to 23 days of 4G standby and up to 18 hours of internet browsing. For refuelling your battery, it can charge pretty fast getting 50% capacity in less than 40 mins using its original charger.
